The Future of Memorial Arena - What Do You Think?

Now that the ice has more or less 'died' at Memorial Area in Downtown Belleville, the future of this city's landmark is now uncertain and tenuous at best.

Groups on both sides of the arena debate have sprung up. Two visions lead the arena debate; keep the arena going and end the skating business and create something in its place such as an indoor market of the likes of The St. Lawrence Market in Toronto.

This is your opportunity Belleville to share your thoughts about the future of a Belleville landmark and tradition. What do you think should happen to the Memorial Arena?

  1. I'd like to see a multipurpose recreation centre with year-round sports like floor hockey or volleyball, as well as a off-season farmer's market.

  2. Andrew, that's a wonderful idea! Especially like the idea of the year-round farmer's market. As the quest to revitalize the downtown core continues, a draw such as what you propose will go a long way to help entice traffic from locals as well as out-of-town visitors!
