Mayor's Taskforce - Downtown Belleville

The Mayor’s Taskforce on Downtown Belleville has been meeting on a regular basis to move forward plans to assist in the ongoing revitalization of Downtown Belleville. Much of the Taskforce’s work to date has involved obtaining a complete understanding of the existing policies, infrastructure, incentives and opportunities for change in the Downtown. At their most recent meeting, the Taskforce reviewed a variety of the existing incentives available in the downtown as well as a number of the policies and by-laws affecting this integral part of Belleville.

Early in 2011, the Taskforce will make recommendations to City council regarding such important matters as Development Charges, the Property Standards By-law, Official Plan policies and Zoning By-law regulations, outdoor restaurant patio regulations, the Community Improvement Plan, and Financial Incentives to encourage new development.

Mayor Neil Ellis stated “The Taskforce is working hard to ensure it has a comprehensive understanding of what incentives, disincentives and issues are affecting the downtown and they expect to bring forward a
series of recommendations to Council that will support the ongoing revitalization of this important area of our City.”

The Taskforce is scheduled to meet every two weeks throughout 2011 and will provide several opportunities for the public to provide input and feedback on issues and proposals related to the Downtown.
