Can I Cross Now? Cross Walk Mayhem!

It was never my intention to use this publication to vent on any specific topic, however, I found one that deserves at least a small mention as it involves public safety and regard.

As a resident and constant pedestrian of Front St., I use the Courtesy Crosswalk at the corner of Campbell and Front St. on a consistent basis to ensure I make it safely across the street. Today I was dumbfounded at the length of time it took until someone actually found in their heart to stop so I could make it across! It became a social experiment as I stood there and stood there and stood there some more. I contemplated stepping off the curb, but quickly decided against it as vehicles sped up it seemed so they wouldn't have to stop. What has happened that stopping for a freezing pedestrian is now out of vogue?

Finally, a night in shining armour (I think it was an SUV) stopped and I finally made it to the other side! I want to take a moment to thank Ian Acton for seeing my plight and allowing me to cross to the other side before I froze to the sidewalk! Cheers to you Ian!

On a positive note...it seems more traffic has landed in Belleville!

  1. I would have stopped for you Pam :)
I always stop IF I see someone standing at a cross walk.. could be that the busy holiday season has made people less considerate or more distracted

  2. The distraction thing worries me - this is how accidents occur. Anyway, thanks for that Michelle! I know you would have stopped. Just hoping it raises awareness so everyone is safe during the holiday season. Cheers!

  3. I always give the cars the right of way, given that they take a lot more fossil fuel energy to get moving again than I do. Having said that, it's nice when someone does stop, or a least slows down.

  4. Giving cars the right of way is a good thing considering they can cause considerable damage to a body...lol! However, since this spot is designated as a cross point for pedestrians it would be nice if vehicular traffic yielded more often than not! Thanks Barry!
